Jubilee: A Photography Contest for Young People on Sports

"Sport in Motion - The Essential is Invisible to the Eye" is the theme of the international photography contest promoted by the Dicastery for Culture and Education as part of the Jubilee, targeting young people under 25. The proposed theme is "Sport and Hope," with four categories: Sport and Family, Sport and Ecology, Sport and Disability, and Sport and Politics. Until April 30, unpublished photographs—not altered using artificial intelligence and taken after 2020—can be submitted via email to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Participation is free and open to all. Further information and the contest rules are available on the Dicastery for Culture and Education’s website: www.dce.va.

Winners to Be Presented to the Pope

The 13 winning photographs (one for the theme Sport and Hope and three for each of the four categories) will be announced on Saturday, June 14, during the Jubilee of Sport. The winners—as stated by the Dicastery—will be presented to the Pope, visit the Vatican Museums as part of an artistic experience, and see their photographs shared through Vatican media.

Uniting Sports, Youth, and Art

The contest is supported by partners such as L’Osservatore Romano, the Global Compact on Education, the Pontifical Foundation Gravissimum Educationis, and Athletica Vaticana. The jury includes representatives from these organizations, along with Giovanni Zenoni, a young sports photographer, and Arturo Mariani, a former player for the Italian amputee national team and now a coach and mental coach. The contest is an invitation to young people—who are particularly engaged in the practice, language, and imagery of sports—to "become producers of art, not just consumers of art" and to "tell the reality through their eyes, seeing what adults often fail to see, showing that 'essential which is invisible to the eye'" (The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry).
